About Dr. Chistopher Michaels

Chris Michaels, Ph.D. has maintained a private practice in Morristown, NJ for more than 20 years. He provides individual and couples therapy as well as individual and team services in the area of sport psychology.

A New Jersey Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Michaels earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware, an M.S.W. from New York University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Seton Hall University. He completed post-graduate training in individual and couples therapy from the Metropolitan Center for Object Relations in New York and the Center for Family Learning (CFL) in Rye, NY. In addition, Dr. Michaels completed externship training in Ottawa, Canada in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as well as Core Training in EFT in New York and in Princeton, NJ. He also has been trained in hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH).

He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA), the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and the Applied Association for Sport Psychology (AASP).

Dr. Chris Michaels gained a broad experiential background working in state and private facilities. He began as a Social Worker for the NJ Department of Human Services working with adolescents and families. He was Director of Treatment at New Jersey's Boystown, and worked as a psychologist at Montclair State University's counseling center. Dr. Michaels was employed at Morristown Memorial Hospital as clinician and Director of the Treatment Team. He was active in graduate student supervision and developed a program and groups serving Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA). A respected speaker, Dr. Michaels has presented to high schools, colleges, and graduate students, as well as to community organizations on a variety of topics.

Dr. Michaels has been married for 20 years and is blessed with two step-children and four grandchildren. He enjoys photography, woodworking, tennis, bowling and golf. The mind-body connection informs much of his life.
